Delhi - Nirulas restaurant

Under the cracked colonnades of Radial Road 6 is one of the better restaurants in Connaught Place.

Nirulas is at the end of the road and houses a 4 star hotel as well as bar and ice-cream parlour. Upstairs is a very clean, friendly restaurant popular with foreigners visiting Delhi. The menu is both western and Indian so your palette can be gently weaned onto Indian food if you have just arrived.

There is an all you can eat salad bowl for 50 rupees and their pancakes and breakfasts are stunning for only 100 rupees each. But best of all is their Indian food - the Tandoor chicken with pilau rice only comes to 80 rupees and their mutton biryanis are quite exceptional. One day I joined these American girls who had done India in such intense heat. They were fascinated why I wanted to do it. “Well..” I would say “England and India are still joined

The only quibble is gaining admittance - auto-rickshaw drivers all know this place and know that foreigners frequent it.  - They may be very ferocious in getting your custom. But there is generally a tourist-police commissioner outside there to prevent harassment. A rickshaw driver following you down the street is not a good thing
